Send InquiryWhat actually differs between the three
Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) works in 5GHz with downlink MU-MIMO; Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) adds OFDMA and uplink/downlink MU-MIMO, targeting efficiency in dense environments; Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) adds 320MHz channels, 4K QAM and multi-link operation for high throughput and low latency.
- Few clients, low concurrency (guest rooms, small offices): Wi-Fi 5 is enough
- Dense clients with office and video traffic: Wi-Fi 6 offers the best value today
- High throughput (design, medical imaging, AR/VR): consider Wi-Fi 7
Do not be misled by peak rates
Quoted speeds are theoretical peaks; real throughput is limited by channel width, client capability, interference and backhaul. A common mistake is deploying high-spec APs on a 100Mbps uplink — experience is set by the narrowest link.
- Check whether the AP uplink port is 100Mbps or gigabit
- Check PoE switch total and per-port power budget
- Confirm client support, otherwise new features are unused
Making a future-proof trade-off
For hospitality and office projects with a 5-year-plus lifecycle, Wi-Fi 6 and above lowers total cost of ownership; for budget-sensitive sites dominated by phone browsing, Wi-Fi 5 models still hold a clear price advantage.
